Well, we are in music city!

Yesterday we arrived and unpacked at the hotel. We didn't really have that much trouble finding it because a friend of ours loaned us their GPS...all I can say is...WOW! It really works! We also were able to find an Apple Bee's and Wal-Mart. Here comes the exciting part...All without having to stop and ask directions! In downtown Nashville, TN!! Needless to say I am in love with the GPS.

Right now I'm down in the lobby of our hotel waiting for the rest of my family to get ready to go. Our plans for today are as follows: Eat lunch, visit Belmont University where I'm interested in going to Pharmacy school in a couple of years, drive around and see some of Nashville (yay GPS!), go shopping at the HUGE mall, eat supper, and whatever else we want and have time to do.

Tomorrow we plan on visiting the Hermitage, the former home of President Andrew Jackson. Maybe we will do some more shopping...well the probability of that is more than maybe. And I'm not sure what else we will do. It will depend on how much time we have.

What a busy week!

Monday: A Beka was in town so we went over to order some books for my brother's freshman year in high school. (He's in high school?! Boy am I getting old...lol.) And even though I'm finished with homeschool we ordered a grammar handbook to help me in college.

After that we went to the college I will be attending and bought my books. They sure are expensive! But thankfully I was able to buy all of them used except for one that had to be bought new. When we arrived, there was a huge pile of boxes outside of the bookstore and inside they were still stocking the shelves. So I got there at just the right time and was able to get the used books that were still in great shape. I didn't exactly like the idea of getting a book that was going to just fall apart on me later.

Then we went to Target and bought some other supplies I needed for school.

Tuesday: I have been having trouble reading road signs and other things that are farther away so Tuesday we went to the eye doctor. We went to the one at our local Wal-Mart. We received great service. We arrived early and they took us back almost immediately. (Plus it was at a reasonable price.) Well the doctor said I have a little astigmatism and nearsightedness. So I have to get glasses. Thankfully I don't have to wear them all the time though.

After the appointment we looked around at Wal-Mart's eyeglass frames then went to a few other places in town to see what kind they had. So many choices...head spinning...lol!

Wednesday: We had an appointment with our new dentist. And it was truly an enjoyable visit. And no, I'm not crazy. They really went out of their way to make it enjoyable. They were so friendly. Plus they had a small refrigerator out in the waiting room with soft drinks, Capri Sun, etc. that you could have. Also while you were laid back in the chair there was a TV hanging above you so you could watch it while they were working on your teeth. When I was waiting for the dentist, the dental hygienist gave me headphones and the remote so I could turn to whatever channel I wanted to. Very cool if you ask me...lol!

Thursday: Nothing!!! Yay! Well at least nothing scheduled.

Darcy!

(He holds his food with his foot! It's very neat.)

He/she is a green cheeked conure. Unless you do DNA testing, you can't tell for sure whether it is a boy or girl. But I'm guessing it is a boy so I'll call Darcy a him.

I got him a few months ago. He was hand raised but hadn't been worked with that much so he was not quite as tame as I would have liked. He was cage aggressive and would bite a lot but I have work with him and now he is a lot better.

He loves to sit on your shoulder and cuddle up to you. He will sit and chatter and nibble on your ear. Sometimes he nibbles a bit too hard though.

He hates it when I wrap a towel around my head after I wash my hair. If I try and pick him up he fluffs up and bites at me...oh well...maybe I'll be able to break him of that sometime.

Oh and the name Darcy came from Jane Austen's character Fitzwilliam Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.

Review: The Dark Knight

We went to see The Dark Knight today. If you are worried about it having fewer action scenes than Batman Begins, it will not disappoint. It has a lot of action. Some people would argue that it has too much.

It was violent. Also it had some bad language. (Can't they ever make a movie without bad language!?) I would definitely recommend not taking younger children to see it. In some of the scenes I turned my head because they were so intense. The special effects were very well done.

One thing I found disappointing was that they didn't get the same person to play the part of Rachel Dawes. It always ruins it a bit for me when that happens. The actors all did an excellent job though. They made their parts believable.

The movie has some interesting twists to it. They didn't follow the typical "that was so predictable" route.

So overall it was a very well done movie.

2008: Firsts

As I was thinking about 2008, I began to realize how many "firsts" I would be accomplishing this year: graduating high school, turning 18 and be able to buy all those TV offers...(LOL I'm kidding about the last part), beginning college, getting to vote in the up coming elections, etc.

But wait a minute! It seems just a short while ago my "firsts" were riding a bike without training wheels, loosing my first baby teeth or five and starting kindergarten.

I know that in the years ahead there will be many more "firsts" and I'll be wondering what happened to the "firsts" I am facing this year. Today is here and gone before you know it.

There is no way to stop time. That's why it is so important to live in today...not yesterday or tomorrow. I am guilty of that. Wishing I could go back or go forward in time. But that's not how we should live. We should live in today. We can't go back to yesterday so no point in wasting time wishing we could. Also there is no way to go forward to tomorrow, we aren't even promised that we will have a tomorrow.

What can we accomplish today?

Wherever He Leads. Will you go?

I've played the piano for years...and year...I was 5 years old when I began learning and have fallen in love with it. I have fun with piano and get a lot of personal enjoyment from it. Also if I am stressed or upset, I can just sit down and start playing and I start to relax.

But God had more in mind for the piano and me than that. I have to admit I have not always like the thought of what He now has me doing. Even still the only reason I'm doing it is because of Him. What am I talking about? Playing the piano in the worship team at our church. Sure I've played in church before, for offering and prayer...but never in the worship team. I dislike being on stage in front of everybody. I like blending in with the crowd.

When I was asked to do this I agreed to pray about it. And I began to seriously consider it. I told God that I would not get up on stage and play the piano unless He went with me. I wanted to make sure this was His will. And I came to realize that it was.

When I played for the first time, I was surprised to find that I wasn't as nervous as I figured I would be. He went with me.

And I know that He will continue to go with me...as long as I go with Him.

Is God asking you to do something that pushes you outside of your comfort zone? Trust Him, obey Him and go because you will not go alone. He will be there every step of the way. I'm finding that out...!

(I would appreciate it if you would pray for me as I begin this new adventure with my Lord. It is not easy for me and I need His help and I need your prayers! Thank you!)

I guess getting high speed internet didn't help me blog more...oh well!

Just a quick update on what's going on with us. The walls in the house are de-wallpapered and are now painted. We are all sleeping in our own beds instead of on mattresses on the floor. We actually have pictures hanging on the walls now. We are making friends. We are getting used to the church and loving it. That's just a little bit of what has been going on in our lives.

There has been a whirlwind of stuff happening in the last few months....in fact the last year! (February 8th will make it officially 1 year of living in the US.) But God has been gracious and patient. He has put up with our "little faith" and complaining. And has come through for us once again. So if you are in the midst of uncertainty about your future or even your present, trust God with it. If you will just let him take control of the situation you are facing now, He will come through for you...just as He did for us!

Mystery Trip: The End but The Begining of Something New

Well, we have high speed Internet again! Maybe that will help me blog a little bit more now...we'll see :-).

Everything is going well. Things have been pretty busy. The house we are living in is really nice but it has needed some work done on the inside (Like taking off wallpaper for instance. If you have ever done that before you understand just how difficult that can be...Lol!). But it is getting there and we are really happy with it. Illinois isn't home yet, but it will be in time.

I guess this will be the last post in the "Mystery Trip" series of posts. It has definitely not been an easy "Trip" but it has been worth it. God has been faithful. God has provided. God is good!

Mystery Trip: Finally There

Hey guys!

Well, we know where we are moving! And actually we are already there. All of our things aren't...but will be hopefully later this week.

We didn't move to Kentucky but to a state very near by. We are now in Illinois.

My dad is pastoring a church here. Everyone has been so nice to us and very, very welcoming. It has been amazing to watch God work all of this out. We know that this is what we have been waiting on.

Mystery Trip: Return to USA

Wow...I'm actually blogging! It's been a long time since I posted last!

Well, I will give you guys a short update on what's happening with us.

We are still waiting on God to see where He is going to place us. My dad feels like it is God's will that he pastors a church but at this point we don't know which church or where it is. So we wait. Which is very hard after being here almost 6 months but we're hanging in there by His grace!

I'd really appreciate it if you would keep us in your prayers that God would give us patience to wait upon Him, and that He would show us where He wants us to go...that He would open up the right door and close all others.

Thank you to all of you who have been praying for us! We really need your prayers. It has been a period of growing and learning. Learning some of the lessons that we as humans seem to have a hard time learning, patience, trust, obedience, and submission to God.

But God has been faithful and has provided completely (and exceedingly above) for our needs. He has been good.

Mystery Trip: Unveiled

Hey everybody!

Sorry for the extremely late unveiling of the “Mystery Trip”. And no, we are not back from the “trip” yet. And actually…we aren’t going back. The following is not a typo: we are not going back to Belgium (To live anyway. Maybe we will go back for a visit sometime.). We have permanently moved back to the USA.

It was time for us to come home and we are happy to be back. We didn’t make the decision to leave nor did the church we are with bring us back. God brought us back.

Right now we are living in Tennessee, unsure of where we are going next. As you can imagine, we are very anxious to get to where we are going and get back to normal life. But all of it will fall into place eventually.

We would really appreciate it if you guys would pray that God would show us where He wants us to go, what ministry He has for my dad, and also that He would help us adjust to living in the USA again. It has been approximately 11 years since we have actually lived in the States. We have come back for visits and two furloughs but we haven’t lived here permanently since the beginning of 1996.

Just to let you know, I don’t think I’ll be updating my blog much, if at all, for awhile (exactly what I’ve been doing for some time now… :-)). I don’t know if I’ll continue blogging…I’ll just have to wait and see how it goes when we get where we are moving.

Thank you all (nope, not y’all….yet. :-)) for your prayers in advance! We really appreciate it.

Christmas or CHRISTmas?

I don’t know. There’s something about this time of year that makes people want to pull out their Christmas CD’s, dust them off, and pop them in the CD player. There’s something about this time of year that calls for hot chocolate, a blanket, and a good (clean) Christmas movie. There is something about this time of year that demands lights, Christmas ornaments, and a tree.

Also this time of year…Stores are overcrowded. Slushy snow is on the streets (depending on where you live). Houses are being cleaned and prepared for uncles, aunts, grandmas, grandpas, and cousins to arrive for the holidays. Presents are being wrapped. Cookies are being baked and decorated. Menus are being planned.

I don’t know…maybe it’s the weather. The ugly gray skies and trees with bare limbs make us feel so depressed we just have to do something to liven up our surroundings.

But is all of this stuff really Christmas? I mean, is this what Christmas is? No, it isn’t.

It’s easy in all of this hustle and bustle to forget the TRUE meaning of Christmas.

Christmas celebrates the birth of a baby that was born over 2,000 years ago. A baby that was no ordinary baby. A baby who was fully human…but at the same time fully God. Someone that would later grow up and become the Savior of the world. One whose name is Jesus Christ.

Christmas is His birthday.

But in all the hurrying and rushing around this time of year…it’s easy to forget it.

Let’s remember not to forget Him this year. Yeah, we’re busy…but so is Jesus. If He had a calendar think of how full it would be. But yet He doesn’t forget us…let’s not forget Him either.

Prayer: Why's it necessary?

Little children do not need any particular reason to talk. They just talk (and talk and talk) even to the point of driving you crazy. They question this and question that. At first a child’s favorite word seems to be no. Then the favor tends to shift to the word why. So parents of a young child never seem to have trouble conversing with their child. It just comes naturally and easily.

Then comes adolescence. And for some (notice I said some. . .not all) kids the chitter chatter and questions end here. Then it is all parents can do to squeeze just a little bit of conversation out of their once so talkative kid. He/she no longer shares things with them—fears, dreams, activities they’re involved in, etc. And the relationship begins to fail. Why? Communication—a vital part of a good, strong relationship—has been cut off.

When we don’t communicate with God (who is our Heavenly Father) our relationship will grow weak. Yes, our walk with God is a relationship. Not a religion. And in order for that relationship to be strengthened, we have to communicate with Him. He is willing to talk with us. He is willing to share what’s on His heart with us. . .but we have to be willing to listen to what He says and then in turn talk and share with Him too.

Prayer is a great privilege that we’ve been given. It is a gift. And God doesn’t want us to just set it on the shelf to look pretty. He wants us to use this gift He’s given us! He wants us to talk with Him and pour out our hearts! All those frustrations that we lock inside He wants us to unlock for Him. And those times when we are so happy we can barely stand it, He wants us to open up and allow Him to share in our happiness!

God is there through good times and bad. He’s committed to us. . .but are we committed to Him. Do we show that we are serious about our relationship with Him by spending time with Him? Or do we ignore Him and talk to anyone and everyone but Him?

The times we spend with God should be one of the things we most look forward to because it truly is a privilege. I think if we would just view prayer this way it would take on a whole new light. A whole new meaning. Instead of something that just “has to be gotten through” it would become a treasured part of our lives.

What an awesome thing it is to be able to have a relationship with the King of kings and the Lord of lords! To be able to know Him and talk with Him! Prayer is a wonderful gift that God has given to each of us. How are you using yours? Is it getting dusty on the shelf? Or is it getting worn with use? Something to think about. . .

This is my 200th post!!! (Maybe I talk too much *wink*!)

Just a quick question: How many of you have read I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Joshua Harris? I read the book and loved it! What are your thoughts about it?

Right now at my church we are using IKDG along with the study guide and videos for the teen's class. It's been great! If you haven't seen the IKDG video series yet I highly recommend it to you!

Happy Birthday!!!!:

Who’s the birthday boy/girl you might ask? Well it’s not actually a person’s birthday I’m referring to….It’s was All For Him’s 1st birthday on Sunday! (I started the blog last year on October 8).

Switzerland:

This morning my parents left for a retreat that is being held in Switzerland for missionaries. My brother and I stayed here (Belgium) and someone from our church is staying with us. Please be praying for a safe trip for my parents.

School:

I'm taking physic (Dr. Jay Wile's course) this year. So far I’ve gotten through 2 of the 16 modules/lessons and right now I’m studying to take the test for the 3rd. So after I take this test I’ll have 3 out of 16 modules/lessons done! I know, I’ve still got a long (long) way to go….Just trying to raise my hopes a little *wink*.

Update on the Cockatiels:

They are all flying now! Charming (the oldest) is the best flyer. Lizzy (the next oldest) flies too fast but has really improved on her landing. And the littlest baby (don’t know if it’s a girl or boy so I’m stuck on what to name it) is not good at this flying thing yet but hopefully it’ll get the hang of it soon. And the really good thing now is that they only have to be fed once a day (just before their bedtime) because they are eating seed now.

BTW:

I’ve been playing around with Adobe Photoshop (as you can see by the pic above and the one in the post below). It’s really neat!

Where's Your Focus Point?

"We Fall Down" by Chris Tomlin is a simple song. It is not one of those songs that takes a long time to memorize. Sing it a few times and you’ve got it. It may be simple but the meaning of the song, the message, is anything but simple.

It is a song that gives Christ the glory. A song that sings praise to Him and only Him. It doesn’t dwell on our problems; it dwells on His greatness and mercy. It gets your mind off yourself and instead gets you thinking upon Jesus.

We need to sing more songs like this. We need to listen to more songs like this. More importantly we need to live more like this. What do I mean?

Well, if we think upon God and His greatness instead of the problems in our lives, He becomes greater and our problems become less. He is our focus. Not us. When the apostle Peter took His eyes off of Jesus and started focusing on the waves around him, he began to sink. What would have happened if Peter had kept his eyes on Jesus? He wouldn’t have sunk. Simple as that. He would have reached Jesus without any difficulty.

The same truth applies to us today. Right now.

If we keep Jesus as our focus point, we will not fall. But the minute we take our eyes off of Him and glance around us, then we begin to fall.

We need to constantly look to Him. And to thank Him and praise Him for being who He is. We need to get our minds off of ourselves…and instead get our hearts and minds on Jesus. And to praise and worship Him with all that we have. We need to just “fall down and lay our crowns at the feet of Jesus.” He deserves nothing less.

Posting Trouble

Well, I'm not the only one having problems posting. On the Blogger Group Support (or somthing like that anyway!) there are plenty of people complaining about not being able to post...So it is Blogger or Google's problem. Thankfully it's not something wrong with my computer! Hopefully they'll have all this straightened out soon! Oh, and a little note about my blog over at WordPress--it's not letting me post either. But this time it is my computer's fault. For some reason an error message comes up whenever I try to write a post. With Blogger, the window goes blank after I press the "Publish Post" button. So they are completely different problems. Computers, computers, computers--Gotta love 'em, but they sure are a lot of trouble! :-)

Been A While. . .

Good grief, Charlie Brown! It's been a while since I've blogged. . .I have some really good excuses. . .though. . .if you care. . .to hear them. . .

Excuse #1: You remember how our cockatiels had babies before we went to the US this summer? Well, while we were gone they laid more eggs (5 to be exact although only 3 of them hatched) and when we got back two of them were hatched and another one hatched that night after we arrived. And with these babies I really wanted to try handfeeding 1 or 2 of them since I'd be here to do it. (They are extremely tame when handfed!) So I ended up taking in one of them (the oldest) and then about a week later I decided to bring the other 2 in. . .so now I'm handfeeding all 3 of them!

As you can imagine it is quite a responsibility! Right now the oldest 2 have to be fed 3 times a day and the youngest is still being fed 4 times a day.

Here are their names:

1st: Prince Charming (from Shrek 2) nick-named Charming
2nd: Mr. Darcy (from the book Pride and Prejudice) nick-named Darcy
3rd: Missy (She is albino. She has such beautiful white feathers!)

I'll have to post some pics later.

Decided to change my name (in the blogosphere) from Hannah Elizabeth to Hannah-Liz (Thanks Kaitlin for suggesting it!) I've been mostly going by Hannah-Liz for awhile now, but hadn't ever switched to it "officially" on my blog.

Trip to the US

This is another interview. . .hope you don't mind! So here is me being interviewed by myself (again)!.

Reporter:

So Hannah, I've heard that you have been lazy about posting for the last, oh, I'd say 2 months. Is this true?

Hannah-Liz:

*looks very sheepish and weakly says:* Yes.

Reporter:

Why? Why would you do this to those who have been so very very faithful to read your blog and comment? Why! *pounds fist on table* Why! *ditto* Why *you get the idea* *tries to compose self*

Hannah-Liz:

Well, I've been busy.

Reporter:

Busy? Too busy to blog?!

Hannah-Liz:

Yes.

Reporter:

Okay. . .now lets begin.

Hannah-Liz:

You mean this isn't part of the interview and all of those questions were just a waste of time!

Reporter:

No. . .well yes. . .*getting embarrassed* lets just say that those questions were for my benefit. Now! Lets just move on!

Oh! We went to the US.

What did you do while you were there?

We visited a lot of family. Got to see my new 2nd cousin for the first time! She was born last December. And ate at some of those good restaurants. . .well actually quite a few! Got to visit Wal-Mart. Gotta love Wal-Mart! Did clothes shop

Reporter:

*interupts* You actually like Wal-Mart? *unbelief in voice*

Hannah-Liz:

Yes I do.

Reporter:

Why?

Hannah-Liz:

Well, there is a lot to see there, and they have great prices!

Reporter:

Uh huh. . .Well, did you do anything extrodinarily exciting while you were there?

Hannah-Liz:

In Wal-Mart?

Reporter:

No! *getting annoyed* Did you do anything else while you were in the US!

Hannah-Liz:

Oh! I got my driver's liscense! Yep, I can drive by myself legally in the US except between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am. That is because in TN they have the following rules: At 15 you can get your permit. After you get 50 hour of driving in (10 of them at night), are 16, and pass the road test you can get your intermediate restricted liscense (the one I have). At 17 you can move up to an intermediate unrestricted liscense and then at 18 you get your driver's liscense (you just still have under 21 printed on it).

Reporter:

*Yawning, yawning, and. . .yawning* That was long and boring.

Hannah-Liz:

*getting frustrated* Why do you have to be so rude?

Reporter:

Well, I'm trying to make this interview as interesting as possible!

Hannah-Liz:

Yeah, but can't you be a little nicer and still make it interesting?

Reporter:

Okay, I'll try. I'll try. But I'm not makin' any promises! So will you be diving in Belgium?

Hannah-Liz:

Ahem, DRIVING. You're not even listening! I said d-R-i-v-i-n-g

Reporter:

*interrupts yet again* Okay, okay I get it.Then will you be DRIVING in Belgium?

Hannah-Liz:

I most likely won't get to 'cause you have to be 18 to drive here.

Reporter:

Hmmm. . .Sooo you had a good trip?

Yeah but a very tiring one.

Reporter:

And you are tiring me too! Everytime I interview you it's always about you. Why can't we ever discuss. . .me?!!!

Hannah-Liz:

Talking about me is what we're supposed to do because you are interviewing me not yourself!

Well, why don't you interview me sometime?! *pouting*

Well technically you are being interviewed because I am you and you are me. *smiling*

Just a note to let you all know that I'm alive! Sorry it's been sooooo quiet here lately. I've just not had much time to sit down and write a post. And right now where we are staying I don't have internet access. (I'm using my cousins' computer right now.) So hopefully sometime in the near future. . . .I'll be able to post. . . .something. . . .whenever I'm able to use the internet. :-)

So as you can tell from the ticker above, my family and I are getting ready to make a trip back to the US.

Yep, we're goin' home for a few weeks!

We'll be visiting family and going to the General Assembly for the Church of God. And there will be quite a bit of traveling involved! The plane flight from Brussels to Atlanta Georgia is about 8-9 hours long. And then we take another flight up to Kentucky. It makes for a loooooong day! Believe me!

Then when we get there we'll spend the night there and then we have to make a 6 hour trip down to Tennessee the next day. We'll stay there that night and the next then we drive back to Kentucky (yep, another 6 hours.) Needless to say, by that weekend, we'll be very, very tired!

We will also be taking other trips while were there too.

So we would really appreciate your prayers for: a safe trip to the US, safe travels while we're there, and a safe trip back to Belgium!

I hope to have some other posts up before I leave. But while I'm gone, there will probably not be very many (if any) posts. I'll have access to internet but it will be the dial-up version. So I won't be able to spend much time on the internet. Maybe from time to time I'll write something on Microsoft Word and quickly copy and paste it to blogger. . . . .we'll see!

Oh! And I finished Chemistry!!!!! YAY! Got it done!

Okay. A while back, I said something about showing you a picture of the definition of a German "pepperoni" pizza. (Actually it happened because we can't speak the German language. If we were able to speak German, it most likely wouldn't have happened so it was really our fault.) Well. . . .here 'tis:

"Jesus Loves Me"

Have you ever just stopped and realized, “Wow, God loves me!”? We sing about it in church and hear it preached. As kids, a lot of us sang the song "Jesus Loves Me." (I sang it all the time. My parents would grab the video camera and a lot of the times would ask me to sing "Jesus Loves Me." Now that is a great song. I have nothing against it. And I believe (actually I know) Jesus loves me. But it’s kinda like why couldn’t I have been asked to sing some other songs too? Maybe the B-I-B-L-E, Father Abraham, etc.. . .LOL! Anyway, back to the post….) But I think too often we forget the true meaning of it.

Jesus loves me is something we say and know in our minds, but do we grasp the meaning with our hearts? Is it ingrained into our souls? Or is it just a thought that passes through our minds every once in a while that never truly sinks in?

In God’s Word over and over He shows us his love and mercy. And when you think about how wicked this world is and how wicked our hearts are, you begin (Note that I said begin. We can never fully grasp the meaning of His love. Maybe in Heaven, but certainly not while we’re here on earth.) to see and understand just how much He does love us. Think about it: God is a God who is perfectly holy. There is no sin in Him. We are wicked and deceitful. Stained filthy with sin. But He still loves us. And He proved it by dying for us. So that we could be made holy and pure. So that we could enjoy eternity with Him. Now can you begin to see His love? Can you begin to understand it?

Why did God tell us in His Word about His love for us? Because He wants you and me to know that He loves us! God wants us to realize and understand that!

So, whether you are just getting up out of bed or are in the middle of the day or are getting ready to go to bed. Stop and just think about His love. Let the realization of it just soak in for a minute. ‘Cause you know what? He loves you!

Baby Cockatiels

Our cockatiels had babies! I didn't tell you about them setting on the eggs earlier becase we weren't sure if they would hatch. But they did! One hatched I suppose it was yesterday and I think another one hatched I guess it would have been yesterday or today. Not sure. They are outside in an aviary, so we can't keep that good of an eye on them. There is one more egg that should hatch later today or tomorrow.

I don't have any pictures of them yet.

It's soooooo good to be back.........Long car trip.....Yep......Very long!

Well, someone did guess where I went! (Lol, Lindsey! I didn't visit Kaitlin! *smile and wink*:)The correct answer is...........Germany! Un huh. Germany. Kristin, you guessed right!

And no, this was not a vacation for me. I took my school with me........because in a few weeks we are off on another trip. And I don't want to have to take my school with me on this one.

I hope to be able to get back to regular posting again. And hopefully I will be able to post a picture showing the German definition of "pepperoni pizza!" (When my parents ordered the pizza, they had trouble communicating with the person. So there was a little.......ummmmm..........misunderstanding........lol!.) We had a good laugh over this one!

I'm not Dating......I'm Waiting

When I was little, there was one subject that would make me mad. . . .boyfriends. One time, when I was younger, someone asked me if there were any boys that I liked (or something like that) and my dad told them that they better not talk about that with me because I’d get angry.

To give a few more examples:

When I was around 5 years old, there was little boy in my Sunday School class who like me. Well, I remember one Sunday, I sat down at the table and he came and sat down across from me. I didn’t like that so I scooted over to the empty seat that was beside me. And he couldn’t do the same thing because someone was already sitting in the seat beside him. Then when I was about 6 years old, there was this little boy (I’d say he was around 7) who asked me to be his girlfriend. Well. . . .after he said it he probably wished he hadn’t. I got really mad at him and he began to apologize. (He was most likely afraid I would tell on him and get him in trouble.)

Now I don’t get angry with you. . . .I take the opportunity to tell you my view of dating. (As I get older and am asked questions like this more and more. . . .there will most likely be times I'll choose to not go into the details though. It would just depend on the circumstances and the person asking the question.)

What is my view you may ask?

Here was my view when I was younger:

I always said I wanted to be older to date. And at the time 18 sounded old. So I said I didn’t want to date until I was 18.

Then as I got older:

I started tossing the idea around in my head. . . .what if I dated around 15-16?

But then:

I got Joshua Harris’s book I Kissed Dating Goodbye. And out went the idea about dating and in came the idea of. . . .waiting. Yes. . . .I have “Kissed Dating Goodbye!” And I’m not sorry for the choice at all. I’m so glad that God helped me to find a better way.

Kissing dating goodbye has really given me a lot of freedom most girls don’t have.
I don’t have to worry about finding a boyfriend and then trying to hang on to him. I don’t have to worry about a boyfriend pressuring me to sin.

Also, kissing dating goodbye has helped (or maybe I should say has protected) my relationship with God. Instead of running to a boyfriend to find acceptance and companionship, I run to God. I find my worth and value in Him. . . .not in guys.

Does this mean I will never ever date/court? No. . . .it just means I’m waiting for God’s perfect timing and God’s perfect choice for me. Dating/courting to me is not a game. If God ever leads me into this kind of relationship, it will be with the purpose of marriage in mind. I can’t marry right now, I’m way too young. And I won’t be ready for many, many more years. So right now it is not the right time for me to even be considering it. Like Joshua Harris says, “The right thing at the wrong time is the wrong thing.” Marriage is a good thing, but at the wrong time, it is the wrong thing.

And I’m waiting for “the one” God has for me (if God has marriage for me someday). Why am I letting God choose for me? God made me, He knows me completely. He can make a much better choice than I ever could. ‘Cause I don’t know myself as well as He does!

Now I don’t want you to get the idea that I’m saying you have to follow exactly what I’m doing. This is what I’ve chosen to do. Nobody forced me, my parents didn’t and neither did God. I made this descision myself. So I’m not trying to force anyone else, you have to make this choice for yourself.

Really, really good. It is an autobiography by a Christian woman who was put in prison and eventually a concentration camp for hiding Jews in her home during the holocaust. It is truly eye opening to what went on during that time. But also it shows how faith in Christ can carry you through even the most difficult of circumstances and how He is faithful to you no matter what.

Have you ever had anyone say to you, "All religions lead to God"? He explains things really well and has some arguments that would be great to remember in case anyone evers makes a statement like that to you. NOTE: My mom alerted me (I had forgotten) to the fact that in the last chapter (pretty sure it's the last chapter) there are some statements and teachings we do not agree with.

Has to be one of my favorite fictional books. And Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy are some, if not my most, favorite fictional characters. I really loved this book! And the movies were also really great. (The one aired on BBC and the new one that came out in 2005.)

Sense and Sensibility:

Also great. A story that focuses on two sisters, one of whom begins a relationship with a man that is all based on passion and not committment. The other sister, the more sensible one, loves a certain man and he loves her but someone stands in the way to their being married. (The movie based on this book was also really good.)

Bad Day? Maybe It's not Afterall!

Have you ever had one of those days? (I'm sure you have.) Days where everything seems to go wrong and nothing seems to go right. Maybe this sound familiar:

When you first get up in the morning you bang your head on the door. When you are fixing your breakfast you realize the you're out of your favorite cereal. At lunch you spill your drink all over you lap. And if that wasn't enough you get a D on your math test and a C on your grammar test. Etc.

Probably you've not had a day that went exactly as I described above, but maybe you had one sorta like it. And when the day is finally over you are so thankful! And you wonder how in the world it could be any worse?

Believe me! It could be a lot worse!

We all have days that we consider "bad days." But guess what? If you are a Christian, every day should be a great day. In fact every day should be an awesome day! Why, you may ask? I'll let the chorus from one of FFH's songs explain:

Say hey, it's a good day

Even if things aren't going my way

Jesus is Lord and I am saved

So, say hey, it's a good day

Every day is a good day because (if you're a Christian) you are on your way to Heaven! You have been rescued! You are saved! And you are not going to Hell!. Next time you think you are having a "bad day" just remember that Jesus is Lord and you are saved, so it's a good day!

Here are some books that I've been reading:

The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte:

We (my mom and I have been reading these books together) finished Shirley (It was a really, really good book!) and now we've started on this one. So far it has been really great! If you are a fan of the Bronte Sister's books, I suggest picking this one up!

SHE [Safe, Healthy, and Empowered] Teen by Rebecca St. James and Lynda Bjorklund:

This bookzine (It is a book but is made to look kinda like a magazine) has been really good! They deal with subjects like being secure, being feminine, being pure, being purposeful, being empowered, etc.

she: The title every girl gets the moment she is born.

SHE: The title given to those girls who seek more from God and submit their life
to being transformed into his original design. The result is a Safe, Healthy, and Empowered SHE.

Live Like a Jesus Freak by dc Talk:

Don't mistake the title for a bad thing because it isn't meant in bad way. In the section "A Word Before We Start" dc Talk explains "Jesus Freak" as:

"Jesus Freak" started off as a derogatory term for people who were radical in the way they followed Jesus. True believers, however, took it as a compliment--to be labeled a Jesus Freak meant others saw a difference in your life, and that--perhaps--Jesus was beginning to mess with their lives as well. And that is a good thing.

Throughout this book, you will see the term Jesus Freak used often. When you do, think of a Jesus Freak not as someone who is perfect, or even close to perfect. A Jesus Freak is simply one who knows he or she cannot be perfect without God's incredible grace and mercy, and daily seeks those two gifts. A Jesus Freak has chosen to leave this life behind and seek the abundant life God promises. this is a choice that is made daily, and some days are better than others. But still, God forgives.

So far it has been pretty good. But of course I've only read the first chapter (Believe Like A Jesus Freak) and part of the second (Pray Like A Jesus Freak). They have both been really good. What is the definition of Freak you might ask, well, dc Talk has the definition in the front of the book:

1. A sudden and odd or seemingly pointless idea or turn of the mind.

2. A seemingly capricious action or event.

3. A strange, abnormal, or unusual person or thing.

4. An ardent enthusiast

"But Don't All Religions Lead To God?" by Michael Green:

Have you ever had anyone say to you, "All religions lead to God"? As a Christian you know that's not true but maybe you aren't sure how to reply to this statement in a way to convince someone that they're wrong. Well, my mom and I have been reading this book together and so far it has been excellent! He explains things really well and has some arguments that would be great to remember in case anyone evers makes a statement like that to you.

Here is a sample of the book. It is a little long but it is worth reading! (Chapter title: "It Doesn't Matter What You Believe As Long As You Are Sincere")

That is something you often hear when religion is being discussed. Not of course, when the talk is about politics or whether one country should bomb another. You never hear it when people are talking about the horrors of Auschwitz or Belsen. Hitler was undoubtedly sincere in his hatred of the Jewish people, but everyone would admit he was wrong. (If you don't admit it, I shall take leave to disbelieve you!) The massacre of six million Jews in the Second World War was deliberate, ruthless, and the product of a very clear and sincerely held belief. Hitler was sincere but terribly wrong.

An example like this, which caused the annihilation of millions of people, should make us very cautious about claiming that it does not matter what you believe as long as you are sincere. It is manifestly nonsense. For centuries people sincerely believed that thunder was caused by the gods at war. We now know that this sincerely held belief was superstitious rubbish. They were sincere but wrong. For centuries people sincerely believed that the sun went around the earth. When Galileo, following Corpernicus, showed this was not the case, he was forbidden by the pope to "hold, teach or defend" such a view and was handed over to the Inquisition. I am sure he would not have agreed, as he languished in his prison, that it does not matter what you believe as along as you are sincere!

Now, of course, sincerity is vitally important. Everyone dislikes a hypocrite. But sincerity is not enough. I may sincerely believe that all airplanes at London Airport will take me to America, but I would be wrong. I may sincerely believe that lots of cream and chocolate is the best way to recuperate after a heart attack, but I would be wrong.

Buster

Here is the promised post about my dog (a.k.a. Buster). Sorry it took so long. I had a little difficulty finding the pictures, but they are finally found!

Buster is a friendly little dog. Well little compared to a German Shepherd! But compared to another Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) he is a giant! Most of them weigh about 6-8 lbs. Buster weighs 13 lbs! And no he's not too heavy for his size either! The pictures prove that!

When we first got him he didn't speak English. Oh didn't I tell you? He is from Narnia so he is a talking dog! Okay, I'm kidding, I'm kidding!!! What I mean is he couldn't understand English. The people we bought him from spoke French and had taught him....French! So we had to speak to him in French at first. Now he doesn't understand it but understands English very well. Especially the words: treat, go for a walk, and leash.

Buster has flown before! You don't believe me? Well, it's true. He has flown. No he doesn't have wings! But the airplane he flew in did! And let me tell you.....he really doesn't like airplanes!

What else can I tell you about him.....well, he loves to bark. Whenever a dog goes by our house he goes crazy! Crazy as in barking a lot. Oh and see his bandana? After I bought that for him my brother said that he looked like a badly dressed tourist. (It has a Hawaiian type pattern on it.)

He also doesn't listen very well. He is stubborn. But he will roll over if I give him something special to eat.

And here is the best picture for last. See his teeth? They have to be brushed. And guess who has to do it.....

Shot. That is a really scary word to a little kid. I know it used to be to me! I always dreaded getting shots. I'm not so bad now because I had to have allergy shots for about 3 1/2 years. That kinda helped me to get over my fear.

Here is a joke that I found on this subject........

While I was working as a pediatric nurse, I had the difficult assignment of giving immunization shots to children. One day I entered the examining room to give four-year-old Lizzie her shot.

"NO! NO! NO!" she screamed.

"Lizzie," her mother scolded. "That's not polite behavior."

At that, the girl yelled even louder, "NO, THANK YOU! NO, THANK YOU!"

Makeovers (on the inside): They Can Be Painful!

You have finally decided to surrender everything to God. You have asked Him to make you into the godly young man or woman that He wants you to be. You know that what God is going to do with you will be great once He’s finished.

So now God starts working on you. He starts chipping away at you. Shaping you. Molding you. And maybe this shaping and molding starts hurting a little bit. You start getting worried. You start wondering what He’s doing. And now you’re not so sure if the finished you will be so great.

I really like the TV show Extreme Makeover Home Edition. (You know the show where they come and tear somebody’s house down and rebuild it bigger and better.) Well, the families that get chosen for the Home Makeover are really excited and happy. They readily give them permission to re-do their house. But once they come and start tearing down the house, you wonder if the families ever start getting worried. I mean, come on! They at least had a house even though maybe it was in bad shape. And a house is better than no house! Even though at first they realized the finished house would be great, when they start bulldozing their house you wonder if they ever start doubting whether this was such a great idea.

It’s the same when God starts working on us. He starts tearing things down, re-doing, rebuilding, and rearranging. And sometimes that gets painful. It gets uncomfortable. But one day, the work He has begun in us will be completed. And the finished us will be so much better than anything we could have ever hoped for or even imagined! Just hang in there and trust God. Because you know what? He’s trustworthy!

Run-Away Budgie!

Does anyone know what an aviary is? Well, incase you don’t I’ll give you the definition of it courtesy of the Encarta Dictionary: [An aviary] is an enclosure or large cage where birds are kept. We have one outside and we keep cockatiels and budgies in it (we used to also have a pair of Love Bird but had to get rid of them because the female was biting the other bird’s feet). Well, yesterday…..one of the budgies flew the coop. We have been trying to lure her back to the cage but so far it hasn’t worked. So if anyone sees a blue budgie flying free, it might be ours!! (Actually it is my brother's.)

I gave our dog a bath today. He sure doesn’t like that! He especially doesn’t like it when I have to rinse the soap of his head! I took some pictures of him awhile ago and so hopefully someday I’ll be able to sit down and write a post all about Buster (that’s our dog’s name).

I just got my hair cut today. I'm so glad that the guy who cuts it is good at his job.......

A new hair salon opened up for business right across the street from the old established hair cutters' place. They put up a big bold sign which read:

This post is mainly for those of us in school…..

Aaaaaaaaaaaah……summer break is almost here!!! But it’s not here yet……..and I don’t know about you but I’m ready for a break. My school has been very demanding this year. Especially since I got a late start on it. (It would take a little bit of explaining why I started school late, so I won’t bother you with it…..for now at least!)

School takes a lot of, can you guess what? It takes perseverance. It takes discipline. And those are things that I find hard sometimes, okay a lot of the time. Some days I have to really push myself to get my school done. I would rather be playing the piano or blogging etc. But I know one day my hard work will pay off. All these hours I’ve spent studying will be worth it. Why? I really want to go to college and get a pharmacy degree. I’ve always loved the medical field. And I have narrowed it down to the field of pharmacy. Getting to that goal isn’t easy though. And I’ve really figured that out since I’ve began highschool. I’ve seen real quick that it is going to take a lot of perseverance and discipline (and of course I need God’s help!).

Here is some encouragement for you as you study:

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again! So this means if you fail 10th grade, try, try again! (Hopefully that won’t happen!)

Well, I don't have time to sit and write a post today. But here is a very interesting article.

Our Pranks.......

Once upon a time....um....never mind. That is so.....over used.

Anyway, my brother and I pulled some pranks on April Fools. It was a lot of fun!

Our Pranks:

(1.) We took hard boiled eggs and switched them with the raw eggs in the refrigerator. This turned out really well!!

(2.) My brother taped my dad's computer mouse to the side of a cabinet. (The computer mouse it cordless.) Instead of tricking anyone this one just looked kind of odd.

(3.) I took tape and rolled it and taped my dad's shoes to the floor. He didn't find this out until April the 2. So it was a day late, but oh well.

(4.) We switched the pictures around on the walls.

(5.) We switched the sweetened tea with a mixture of water, food coloring, and unsweetened tea. (We had to do that to give it the tea color)

(6.) We took two doors off the hinges and hid them. My dad noticed it I believe right away. But it took my mom awhile to figure it out!

(7.) etc.

Now you might be asking, "Yeah that's great but didn't you get in trouble?" Well, my parents were fine with these jokes as long as we put things back where they went. Like, for instance, the pictures. And as long as we didn't hurt anything. Like, for example, dropping the doors and breaking something.

The door joke was kinda a joke on us though. The one door was not too heavy so it was pretty easy to get back on the hinges. But then the other door which is a wooden (oak) door took a few tries. But everything went fine and we had some good laughs.

My dad did get us back. Lets just say that he hid a few of our things. Like Nathan's PlayStation 2 and my GameCube etc.....!

Waiting for the Wedding

Hannah Beth over at Beauty from the Heart wrote an awesome post! I loved it! I really recommend going over and reading it. Here is a sample:

Imagine that you are engaged to be married. You have met and fallen in love with the one who God has planned you for all along. You can hardly wait for the wedding day, but you have one problem. Your groom promised to bring the entire wedding party to your doorstep, but following old Jewish tradition, has refused to tell you the wedding date. It is a secret posessed only by him and his father. Every morning you wake up and question yourself, 'Is this the day of my marriage?' Each day you must prepare as though the wedding were just about to take place.
This may seem like a surreal situation, but it was reality for Jewish women during the time of Christ. After the initial betrothal, about twelve months would pass. Toward the end of the twelve months or soon after, the groom would arrive at the bride's home with the wedding party and the marriage ceremony could begin. The bride was never sure of the exact time that her husband-to-be was coming; she only knew that it was soon.

Pete now has another blog! Yep, it's called The Epitome of Orangeness. And last week he had a vote on the color of his mustard tie! (Yes, I voted for mustard.) Now there is a trial going on to figure out who committed voter fraud! Was it Pete or Zach? It has been quite interesting, at least I found it to be so.....

This is pretty neat......I found a blog that is run by three sisters, Lydia, Grace, and Hannah. And guess what! Their parents are missionaries too! They are living in Northern Ireland.

I found this and thought it was kinda neat, interesting, funny, ect. So I decided to post it. Enjoy! Oh! and don't be afraid. This quiz won't have you pressing your nose against the screen!

Okay this cat is huge! Can you believe it weighs around 46-50 lb and has a 33 in. waist?

It is so sad. Last Wenesday a 250 (believed to be 250) year old died.........it was a turtle.

Left-Handed snails have the advantage!

It is hard to believe girls would wear this kind of brooch. It actually moves. I don't think I could ever wear this without screaming!

School is getting really tough. A close friend moves away. A family member or close friend becomes seriously ill or dies.

We all go through hard times. And sometimes it seems that we have to go through it alone. We feel that there is no one who we can run to for help or comfort. So we try and bear it all by ourselves. We forget that there is someone who is always there for us.

Jesus is always ready to help us, we just need to ask for His help. He said “Ask and it will be given to you….” (Luke 11:9) And I have found that to be true. So many times I’ve needed help with something, and He has always been faithful to help me if I ask Him for His help. He has always been there for me. And He is there for you too.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

Christian Facing Execution

A man in Afghanistan is facing execution. His crime? He is a Christian.

This man could go free if he would renounce his Christian faith, but he has decided to stand firm in his faith. And because of that he is facing execution.
